Description
The old mill in the ghost town of Bedford Mills, Ontario sits beside a small swampy pond on a backcountry road in the province, as seen on a gloomy day.
This is a watercolour version of a photo I took in 2020. Since I wasn't able to travel outside of Ontario due to covid, I did a road trip around the southeastern area of the province, which included several ghost towns like this one. The town was started in the first half of the 1800s with a mill and power house, shown here. By the mid 1800s, the town had grown enough to replace the mill with a larger one, to go along with the general store and rooming houses. The area is still inhabited by a small number of people, but the town is just a shadow of its former self.
There are a variety of these types of ghost towns around the province of Ontario, and as an activity that's relatively easy to do while social distancing, I've tried to visit a bunch of them. Many of them don't have much left - maybe just a cairn, a cemetery, or a church. This one seemed particularly picturesque, though.

Love the soft finish!

Thanks! I was fiddling around in Photoshop with different ideas (mostly found on YouTube), and kind of liked the way this one turned out.
