A crumbling building in the ghost town of Jackfish, Ontario, reclaimed by nature.
In the remote wilderness near Terrace Bay, Ontario, lies the ghost town of Jackfish, a haunting testament to the passage of time and nature's reclaiming force. Once a bustling settlement, Jackfish was a critical port and refueling station for coal-powered trains along the Canadian Pacific Railway during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. With the shift from coal to diesel locomotives, Jackfish's importance waned, leading to its abandonment mid-20th century.
The crumbling building in the photograph stands as a relic of this town's industrious past. Overgrown with dense greenery and lush forest, this structure embodies the juxtaposition of human endeavor and nature's persistent encroachment. Hi, everybody! Toronto-based photographer here, having lived in this city all my life. It's a great place if you like large, busy cities, but I prefer smaller places. Anyway, although my education and work experience has been primarily in math and computer programming and similar subjects, my passions lie elsewhere.
