Description
A long and empty road winds its way through the desolate rocky landscape of Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada during a beautiful red and orange sunset late in the evening.
The sun is about to fall below the mountains in the distance, creating an atmospheric set of sun rays at the mountain's peak, and bathing the landscape in orange and red hues, enhancing the reason for the park's name.
Valley of Fire derives its name from red sandstone formations, formed from shifting sand dunes 150 million years ago, which can appear to be on fire when reflecting in the sun's rays. Located approximately 50 miles (80 kilometres) northeast of Las Vegas, it is Nevada's oldest state park, having been designated as a National Natural Landmark in 1968.
