Description
The turquoise waters of Moraine Lake, surrounded by trees, lie nestled in the Canadian Rocky Mountains in Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada.
About 14 kilometres outside the village of Lake Louise, this glacially-fed lake is situated in the Valley of the Ten Peaks at an elevation of approximately 1884 metres (6181 feet). It doesn't reach its crest until mid to late June, as the ice from the surrounding glaciers melts and runs off the mountains; the unique colour is due to the refraction of light off the rock flour deposited in the lake by these glaciers on a continual basis.
