Description
A bolt of lightning strikes a large sandstone butte during a heavy thunderstorm as it passes through Monument Valley in Arizona, with dark clouds overhead and a partially washed out road in the foreground.
This particular storm flooded the main road around the Navajo Tribal Park, stranding many visitors in their cars as they waited for the water to subside. The average annual rainfall in Oljato-Monument Valley, Utah is approximately six inches, which is well below the national average of 38 inches, classifying it as a desert. But when it does rain, it doesn't fool around.
